Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens), or "holy wood" is a tree native to Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula south to Peru and Venezuela. It is also found in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Honduras, Ecuador, Peru and on the Galapagos islands. The tree belongs to the same family (Burseraceae) as frankincense and myrrh.
It is widely used in folk medicine for stomach ache, to induce sweating, and as a liniment for rheumatism. Palo Santo oil was used during the time of the Incas for its reputed spiritual purifying properties and today, Palo Santo oil is sometimes applied to the body (such as at the base of the skull or on the spine) to increase relaxation, similar to aromatherapy. Palo Santo is now a protected resource, as its precious oil was harvested through deforestation for several decades. Ethically sourced. 10ml.
